The Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center is joining communities across the country in April recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Month.

This year, local efforts are being recognized at multiple levels of government. The Warren County Commissioners and the Governor of Pennsylvania have both issued official proclamations acknowledging April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and affirming the importance of prevention, early intervention, and coordinated community response.

Throughout the month, visible reminders of this commitment will be present across the community. Blue pinwheels — national symbols of child abuse prevention — will be displayed at the Warren County Courthouse and will also be popping up throughout Warren through the efforts of Diane Bryant and other volunteers. In addition, a banner spanning Market Street, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Warren, will serve as a public call to action: protecting children starts individually.

“Child abuse prevention isn’t something that happens behind closed doors–it happens in communities,” said Melissa McLean, executive director of Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center. “Every conversation, every training, every show of support helps create a place where children are better protected and families are stronger. It truly takes all of us — neighbors, professionals, families, and partners–working together to make that possible.”

Events upcoming include:

Child Advocacy Centers like the Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center play a role in coordinating the response to child abuse by bringing together law enforcement, child protective services, medical professionals, and mental health providers in a collaborative, child-focused approach. The model helps reduce trauma for children and ensures they receive the support they need.

“Prevention starts with awareness, but it grows through action,” said Katelyn Hecei, family advocate and MDT coordinator at the Children’s Advocacy Center. “When community members show up — whether it’s attending a training, bringing their family to an event, or simply learning the signs — they become part of the solution for children.”
