Hundreds of Warren County and Forest Area School District students got a crash course in real-world financial decision-making Thursday as the Warren County Chamber of Business & Industry partnered with the Warren-Forest Higher Education Council to host an interactive Reality Fair during the council’s inaugural Career Day.

The larger Career Day event drew more than 800 students and featured over 40 regional businesses, highlighting career opportunities and strengthening connections between students and the local workforce. The Chamber collaborated with several financial institutions to deliver an immersive budgeting simulation designed to prepare students for life after graduation.

At the Reality Fair, participants began by selecting or being randomly assigned a career and corresponding starting salary. With a monthly income established, students navigated 18 stations representing common living expenses, including housing, transportation, loans, food, clothing and insurance. The exercise required them to make difficult financial decisions while attempting to stay within budget.

The experience concluded with a spin of the “Wheel of Reality,” introducing unexpected financial challenges such as emergencies or surprise expenses. Students then met with financial professionals who reviewed their budgets, provided feedback and shared practical strategies for managing money in adulthood.

“The Chamber is a proud partner in this event where connections are key,” said Savannah Casey, Director of Operations at the Chamber. “We are wholehearted supporters of getting our youth more engaged and on the track to success.

The Reality Fair is part of a broader effort to equip students with essential life skills while strengthening the region’s future workforce.
