Zonta’s Lucky Number Luncheon is Saturday
Warren Zonta Club’s annual fundraiser in years past shows the Conewango Club full of basket items with a reputation built on the quality, creativity and variety of items. The annual luncheon always occurs the first Saturday of March.
The Warren Zonta Club will be celebrating its 28th Lucky Number Luncheon this Saturday. Tickets sell out quickly each year and this year is no different. Celebrating its 97th year, the club’s luncheon was started in 1999 in hopes of eliminating all the smaller fundraisers that had previously occurred. This one big event has sustained the group while providing the funds for donations, scholarships, community support, and international dues.
According to Marina Smith, this year’s chairwoman, the luncheon has grown every year since its start. All gifts are donated by Zonta members, businesses and “friends” of Zonta. “Our event is successful because our entire membership is involved and committed to the highest standards. Most of our sponsors are small, local businesses who believe in our Zonta Mission. Many sponsors have donated every year for the last 28 years.”
Zonta empowers women and their families through service and advocacy. This fundraiser benefits many community organizations, academic scholarships, and the fair queen scholarship. Recognitions are given to the women in Warren County for their achievements within the community. Organizations that the club assists include: A Safe Place, Girl Scouts, Jefferson DeFrees Family Center, CASA, Child Advocacy Center, Don Mills Achievement Center, Dolly Parton Imaginarium, Envirothon, Hi-Ed School to Work Program, Salvation Army, House of Hope and the I Support Girls Program. The help that Zonta provides for these various organizations covers an abundance of assistance from educational needs to domestic violence, youth programs, special needs, the environment and more.
The Warren Zonta Club meets once a month and always welcomes new members. For more information, visit the club’s Facebook page or website: www.warrenzonta.org.
