If you love television shows like “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent,” there’s another upcoming awards show that you may be interested in and it’s got a local contestant to root for. The Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards voting is going on right now online. There are categories like Best Rescue Pet, Most Fashionable, Best Vocalist, and even Ugliest Pet.

Lori and Brian Anderson of Warren have entered their dog, Macy, in the category of cutest dog. Macy, who is part black lab and part elk hound, is currently in third place in the semifinal round after surviving a tough quarterfinal round. Brian Anderson promotes Macy every day on his Facebook page, reminding all of his friends and family to vote for who many agree is the cutest dog.

When asked about Macy, you could hear the love and pride in Anderson’s voice.

“Whenever Macy is hungry, she will carry her bowl out to me,” he said, with a little smile on his face. “She also brings me her leash when she’s ready for a walk.”

The Andersons adopted Macy from Paws Along The River in Warren when she was 10 weeks old. Each year more than 6million pets enter shelters across the country with more than 4 million of those pets finding new homes. This stat shows the scale of the challenge that shelters face and also the life changing impact that adoption can have.

The awards show will take place on April 8 in Los Angeles and winners, along with their humans, will be flown to L.A. to take part in a Red Carpet Show before the event and tickets for the show as well. They will also win $10,000, which can buy quite a bit of food to fill Macy’s bowl.

There are also grants available for top shelters across the country. Anderson wants to spread the word about Paws Along The River and the work they do and also the impact that adoption can have, for both the animals and their new humans. Voting in the semifinals will last through Wednesday for the semifinals.

To vote for Macy or any of the other pets in this contest, just go to www.petchoiceawards.com and choose the category Cutest Dog and type “Macy” into the search bar. Voters are allowed one free vote every 24 hours, or purchase additional votes, with the money raised going to animal charities. Lori and Brian hope to accompany Macy to the awards show in April to meet host, comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias and collect her award.

“She’s so much fun and playful,” he said, thinking about Macy.
