Summer Music School registration opens
Photo submitted to the Times Observer More than just music, there are many classes offered at the Warren County Summer Music School Program even for adults. Sarah Snyder, an adult student, is pictured during a 2025 class.
Registration for the 37th year of the Warren County Summer Music School is officially open online.
The program returns to Beaty Middle School this summer for three weeks starting on June 8 and runs Monday through Friday until June 26. Class times are 8:15 a.m until 12:15 p.m., with transportation available to those who need it on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligible students must be current fourth graders or older, including adults. School aged students select a five-class, full-day schedule, but adult students have the freedom to enroll in a full schedule or as few as one class. Tuition is $150 for three weeks (or $30/class for adults). Scholarships are available.
Adult student Sarah Snyder said she was excited to join a class last summer. She took a music theory class as well as a voice class and she said both challenged her and helped her learn new things like diction and projection, and building confidence in singing.
“I loved the atmosphere of togetherness and everybody working towards something bigger, whether it be a composition, a music video, art or the Pops Show,” said Snyder.
Classes range from music instrument lessons, dance/theatre classes, songwriting, film studies, rock band, show choir, improvisation, sculpture, animation, yoga, drum circle, storytelling, and so much more! There is even a class on Taylor Swift.
Classes will reach capacity and fill quickly. Students are placed in their most preferred classes on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is recommended. While six courses are selected when registering, students will get their top four courses based on availability.
The school is also still accepting applications for interns. Interns receive a stipend to assist staff and faculty in the classroom and beyond. Interns have the opportunity to work alongside staff as they advance both their musical and artistic skills, along with classroom management and teaching abilities as well.
Continued funding from the Logan Foundation, Community Foundation of Warren County and other local donors supports the program’s mission to encourage and develop the study, performance and appreciation of the fine and performing arts. Arts education will always be the focus.
At the culmination of the three weeks, students will again team up with the Warren Philharmonic for a side-by-side concert with student orchestra musicians, choir members, dancers and theatre students. The outdoor concert will be held Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m., on Second Avenue at Downtown Warren’s Pops at the Fountain.
Student and intern registration and information on how to donate are available at WCSMS.org.
