Sheffield woman sentenced to 15 years probation
A Sheffield woman will spend the next 15 years on probation after being sentenced on three separate dockets in the Warren County Court of Common Pleas.
Lacy G. Abraham, 37, was sentenced to five years probation on each of the charges to which she had previously pleaded guilty.
One of those sets of charges involved the alleged theft of money from a senior citizen for whom Abraham was caring. Abraham had been charged with second-degree felony forgery and misdemeanor charges of financial exploitation of an older adult or care dependent person, theft by deception – false impression and theft by unlawful taking – movable property. The forgery charge was withdrawn while the charges of financial exploitation of an older adult or care dependent person and theft by unlawful taking – movable property were not prosecuted. In early February Abraham pleaded guilty to the charge of theft by deception – false impression. She was sentenced to five years of probation to satisfy the guilty plea.
The investigation began in October 2024 after Warren officials received a notice from Older Adult Protective Services, Area Agency on Aging, in Erie asking for an investigation into potential elder abuse and exploitation of a Warren woman.
On a second docket, Abraham had been charged with DUI: controlled substance – impaired ability – first offense, endangering the welfare of a child. The charge of endangering the welfare of a child was not prosecuted, with Abraham pleading guilty to the DUI charge. She was sentenced to five years of probation to run consecutively to the first probation sentence as well as attendance in an Alcohol Highway Safety School and Victims Impact Panel, court costs and a $1,000 fine.
The third set of charges involved charges of a third-degree felony charge of retail theft – taking merchandise after an alleged incident in Warren. After the charge moved from the Magisterial District Court to the Court of Common Pleas, the charge was amended to theft extortion – threat to commit another crime, which state criminal statutes say occurs when a person intentionally obtains or withholds another’s property by threatening to commit another criminal offense, accuse someone of a crime, or expose secrets. Abraham was sentenced to another five years of probation that will run consecutively to the first two sentences as well as restitution to the business involved.
