After a blind taste test from three choices, a blend was voted on and was named “Discovery Blend.”
Recently, supportive community members from around the county enjoyed free samples of the new blend. Information about the coffee bean was shared as well as sensory activities such as playdough made with coffee grounds for children to enjoy. Jennifer Madigan, Kinzua Area Discovery Center executive director, collaborated with Wendy Clawson, Bean Bank Enterprises Inc. owner, for this event.
“Discovery Blend coffee is now part of the inventory and we will get 20% from the sale,” Madigan said. “This is just the beginning of this partnership.”
Coffee is available for sale in whole bean and ground form.

Bean Bank Enterprises Inc sources “Fair Trade Coffee.” Fair Trade Certified coffee is coffee that is certified according to rigorous Fair Trade standards that promote sustainable livelihoods, safe working conditions, protection of the environment, and strong, transparent supply chains.
“Your purchase of the new “Discovery Blend” makes a difference here at home, and for the farmers sourcing these magical beans,” said Madigan.
Both Clawson and Madigan look forward to seeing more of the community at their upcoming events, both collaboratively and individually.
The Kinzua Area Discovery Center has been estimated to cost roughly $10 million. For two years, the center’s board has been working with museum designers from The Children’s Museum in Erie and the National Comedy Center in Jamestown. The goal is to “bring the outside in” with a rock-climbing wall, an eagle’s nest, a winding river, a discovery center, a teaching kitchen, space for adult classes, and a small theater, just to name a few of the attractions. Property has been purchased for the center at the former Red Maple Inn next to Ed Shults in Warren.
As part of the Phase I stage, a smaller space is being explored with a train table, a teaching kitchen, an area with magnets, Duplos, and Legos, as well as other STEM related activities.
