For 10 days, Tidioute borough water users have been on a boil-water order
On March 18, the borough announced it “experienced a potential loss of positive water pressure due to a low water storage tank. A loss of positive water pressure is a signal of the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through back-flow by back-pressure or back-siphonage. As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.”
Users were told, in a notice and phone alert, to bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using; or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.
Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water, but also by other factors.
A notice on the boil-order indicated a loss of pressure occurred due to the low water storage tank level and system leaks. The authority is working to locate system leaks and doing filter maintenance to return the tank to its normal level. This boil water notice is in effect until further notice.
Once the repairs are complete and water quality testing is done the boil water notice will be lifted. Once lifted you will be notified.
