A capital campaign is a large-scale, time-limited fundraising initiative designed to support major projects such as construction, renovations, and infrastructure improvements. For the beloved Warren landmark, now more than 140 years old, this campaign represents something even deeper.
It is both an investment in the future and a commitment to honoring its past.
Since opening its doors generations ago, the theatre has served as a cultural cornerstone of the Warren community. Eight generations have gathered under its roof to attend performances, celebrate milestones, and share memorable experiences. Now, decades of natural wear and tear have made updates necessary to ensure the facility remains safe, accessible, and welcoming for years to come.
This new effort builds on the momentum of a successful 2015 capital campaign that brought several major improvements, including the installation of a new elevator and lift to enhance ADA accessibility. Individual donors formed the largest source of contributions during that campaign.

This is the case for the new campaign as well.
“Online donations have made a large difference,” said Executive Director Karen Austin. “Whether people live here in Warren or just have memories of attending performances years ago, everyone is able to help.”
That spirit of connection has become one of the campaign’s greatest strengths. Digital giving has allowed alumni, former residents and longtime patrons to remain part of the theatre’s story and future.
Planned improvements for the 2025 campaign include:
Replacing windows

Installing new carpeting in the house, balcony, hallways, and Friend’s Room
Upgrading to LED lighting
Replacing 142-year-old galvanized steel plumbing
Installing a new lighting above the stage
Restoring the original terrazzo flooring in the lobby

Adding a permanent front-of-balcony rail
Each project has been carefully chosen not only to preserve the theatre’s architectural integrity but also to elevate the experience for both performers and audiences.
Installation of the new carpet was recently finished and lightning is currently in the works.
When the theatre’s lighting was last updated about 30 years ago, LED technology was simply too costly. Today, LED lighting will be used to help keep the stage cooler for performers.
Austin said that every donation, large or small, will directly impact the theatre’s ability to continue serving as Warren’s cultural hub, and ensuring that future generations can gather beneath its historic roof for decades to come.
“The library theatre really is a legacy for the people of Warren,” Austin said. “Generations of families have walked through these doors, and preserving this space means protecting a shared history.”
Austin said the theatre staff hopes to have all projects completed towards the end of 2027.
