Pinewood Derby championships are Saturday

This year, as in past years, the Warren Odd Fellows Lodge 337 is helping the Cornplanter Scout Council with the Pinewood Derby.

During the months of January and February the lodge becomes quite active almost every evening with Cub Scouts and their parents getting help building their Pinewood Racers. The dining room is turned into a design studio and assembly shop. One of the other rooms at the lodge is a complete wood working shop with band saws, jig saws, drill presses, turning lathes, sanding booths and paint booths. In that time period the lodge will normally assist around 100 Cub Scouts in building their cars. Along with the Cub Scouts lodge members do the same for the local Girl Scout troops and the Cubs Scouts from Tionesta.

The committee has secured the social hall of a local church in Russell for holding the races. On Saturday, the top three winners from each pack will compete for the council championships. This is also the day that the Girl Scouts race and the lodge holds adult modified races.

The championships will be held Saturday at Russell United Methodist Church on North Main Street, Russell. Racing at 10:30 a.m. with the girl scouts starting at 1 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
