Man enters Pine Grove home in cocaine-fueled incident

A Venango County man faces charges after an incident Feb. 1 in Pine Grove Township in Warren County.

Willard W. Whitton, 39, of Venus, Pa., was charged Monday by the State Police at Franklin with first-degree burglary – overnight accommodations, person present, disorderly conduct hazardous/physical offense, criminal trespass/simple trespasser, open lewdness, DUI: individual under influence of drug – first offense, careless driving and reckless driving. Whitton was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Kevin Saragian, who set bail at $250,000. Whitton was taken to the Venango County Prison after he was unable to post bail. A preliminary hearing will be held Feb. 11 in Venango County’s Magisterial Judge Central Court.

According to the Oil City Derrick, which cited the criminal complaint filed by police, Whitton allegedly broke into the home, stripped naked in the yard and later drove his truck through a building in Tidioute. Whitton allegedly had taken cocaine before the incident, and police reported Whitton was found early Sunday morning in his vehicle “talking about demons.”

Whitton allegedly crashed his truck into a ditch outside the home of a Pine Grove resident around 1:17 a.m. Sunday, entered the home and climbed the stairs to the second floor before the home’s occupant forced Whitton back down the stairs. The homeowner’s wife then handed the man a handgun once Whitton had gone into the home’s kitchen. The Pine Grove couple’s two children were home at the time and sleeping, according to the police complaint cited by the Derrick.

Whitton then allegedly left the house, according to the complaint, yelling about Jesus, before leaving in his truck. The Pine Grove resident told the story to a neighbor, and the neighbor followed Whitton and called police.

Whitton allegedly drove to Tidioute, drove through a building and then into the middle of a field, where his vehicle came to a stop and he began blowing the horn. The State Police at Franklin arrived at 2:22 a.m. and found Whitton naked in his truck, blowing the horn, rambling about demons chasing him and telling police he had used cocaine. The Derrick reported Whitton was taken to Warren General Hospital for impairment and exposure to the freezing temperatures. Police allegedly uncovered unidentified narcotics at the scene in Pine Grove as well as a brass smoking pipe as well as a bag of pills inside the home, according to the complaint.
