Several area volunteer fire departments responded Sunday morning to a structure fire on Matthews Run Road in Youngsville.

Garland firefighters report being dispatched at 11:04 a.m. Sunday along with the Starbrick Volunteer Fire Department and Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department Station 63 to assist Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire on Matthews Run Road. Garland firefighters left the station four minutes after being dispatched, arriving to find a fire in a mobile home with an addition. The Wrightsville Volunteer Fire Dept was requested for manpower at that time.

Two hand lines were stretched, one to the front door and the other to the rear of the structure. Firefighters stretched 200 feet of 5-inch supply line to the road, where a portable pond was put down to supply water.

Additional firefighters arrived to help with suppression and then proceeded to shuttle water.

An aggressive interior attack was attempted but crews were met with high heat and near zero visibility. That, along with difficult conditions inside the structure, made the interior attack difficult. Crews transitioned to a predominately exterior attack until it was safer for crews to work inside. A third line was stretched to the front to help with extinguishing areas that the other lines couldn’t get to.

Pleasant Station 73 stood by for Station 52. Spring Creek PA VFD sent a crew to stand by at Station 65.

Firefighters help to extend a line into the mobile home as firefighters from several area departments fought the Mathews Run Road blaze.
