For the 24th consecutive year, the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center will hold its Wonderful Women Galentine Expo.
This year’s event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the center. Admission is $10. No registration is required. The event has a full schedule starting with a breakfast bar, coffee, tea and a complimentary mimosa provided before the opening ceremony with keynote speaker Beth Pellegrino.
Optional classes are offered and it is recommended to reserve a spot by calling 814-723-6350. There are additional minimal fees for some of the classes.
Class schedule is as follows, with two to pick from during each time frame:
– 9:30 a.m.: Secrets of Sourdough Bread with Meg Harkins or Self Defense with Ryan Casey.
– 10:30 a.m.: Terra Cotta Pots, Soil and Succulents from Lowes and Master Gardeners or Improving your Posture with Dr. Verlynn Kleppe.
– 11:30 a.m.: Cookie Decorating with Tina Anderson or Chair Yoga with Rachel Tome
Vendors will also be present all day, with crafters, nail artists, jewelry, and more. Local organizations attending include the League of Women Voters, Zonta, Lions Gate Wealth Management, and Pennie Insurance.
Also, with advance notice, child care is available by calling the center. Vendors that have things available to be made as well for a small fee.
“In the morning we’re just encouraging women to come and enjoy the morning with each other, fellowship and learning, and having fun. This is a joint project with the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center and the Zonta Club of Warren. Zonta’s mission is to build a better world for women and girls, so this program ties right into what they believe, ” said Johnson.
She said the Zonta Club gathers new or gently used bras, new underwear and hygiene products and will have a collection box available Saturday. Items are given to the homeless or local agencies that help those who need it.
Always held the second Saturday of February, the event is in its 24th year of running. This year is a bit different, partly due to it falling on Valentine’s Day which created the idea for having the theme of Galentine’s Day.
Basket giveaways and prize drawings will be held at the end of the day. For more information contact Melinda Johnson at 814-723-6350 or email mjohnson@jdfamilycenter.org
