Epic experience: County holds America 250 PA kickoff

Snow delayed the kickoff to Warren County’s America’s 250 PA celebration. Snow won’t delay the county’s two centerpiece events to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.

Savannah Casey, WCCBI operations director, said funding was given to the Oil Creek Alliance Group to host a river float that will begin at the Kinzua Dam. Also mentioned was that the iconic holiday light sign will light up the riverfront to say “America250USA” in conjunction with holiday festivities that will take place in July.

Warren is known for its July 4th parade, and local officials said the parade is expected to be epic in 2026.

“I think this year we are going to have a Fourth of July like no other. I can’t wait. I am excited to see what they have planned, and I know it’s going to be big,” said Lisa Card, executive director of the Warren County Visitors Bureau.

Casey and Card spoke earlier this week during Warren County’s America 250 PA kickoff event, a celebration that had been postponed earlier this year due to the weather. Andre Castillo, special projects and engagement manager for America 250 PA, visited the Warren Municipal Building and said the idea is for every county in the state to be part of the statewide celebration.

Members of the community gathered to hear discussions on additional events to celebrate the semiquincentennial. This included Mayor David Wortman, County Commissioner Ken Klakamp, Card and Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry officials. The Warren Area High School Madrigals sang the National Anthem and Joe McClellan, Warren County’s America 250 PA representative, briefly talked about his move to the area and that the hope is that these events will attract people from all around the region.

“The Pennsylvania Mobile Experience is coming back here to Warren County, but what I am most excited about is the upcoming events like Rib-fest, the Freedom Kayak Float that will be heading down the Allegheny River, and our already famous Fourth of July celebration,” McClellan said.

The America 250 PA tour will continue across all 67 counties in the state as a way to celebrate each county. It is leading the statewide effort to ensure that the Semiquincentennial is meaningful and inclusive for all Pennsylvanians. The county kick-off ceremonies are a pivotal part leading up to the July 4 celebration. Prior events that have made their way to the area included the Pennsylvania Mobile Experience, an interactive unit with three exhibits and historic reenactments.
