Teen injured in crash

BROKENSTRAW TOWNSHIP — A Pittsfield teenager is in critical condition after a motor vehicle accident earlier this week.

Pennsylvania State Police report at 5:06 p.m. Wednesday, they responded to the area of 2070 Matthews Run Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash with entrapment.

An investigation revealed that a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by a 17-year-old, was traveling north when she lost control of her vehicle on the snow-covered roadway while negotiating a left-hand curve. The vehicle subsequently entered the southbound lane, colliding with a 2013 Ford F150, operated by Daniel Westfall, 71, of Youngsville.

The Cruze came to rest in the southbound lane, facing south, with heavy front-end damage. The Ford came to rest on the southbound shoulder of Matthews Run Road, facing south, with heavy front-end damage. The teen was entrapped inside and had to be freed by emergency personnel on scene. She was subsequently taken to Warren General Hospital via ambulance for treatment of suspected serious injury. Westfall was treated on scene and refused any further medical treatment.

The teen was transferred from Warren General Hospital to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of serious injuries. Further investigation revealed Westfall admitted to recent marijuana usage. He was subsequently taken into custody for driving under the influence and transported to Warren General Hospital for chemical testing. Charges against Westfall are pending toxicology. Investigation continues. Police were assisted on the scene by Youngsville Borough Police Department, Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department, Emergy Care Ambulance, and Bob’s Garage
