Storybook Breakfast to be held Saturday
Photos of previous years during the Storybook Breakfast featured special friends amongst fun activities, and have been held at JDFC each year since 2018.
The Jefferson DeFrees Family Center is hosting its Storybook Breakfast on Saturday.
Breakfast will be held at the center, 207 Second Ave., Warren. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. Tickets cost $15 each; a pancake breakfast will be served, along with bacon and sausage gravy, with support received from Coffaro’s Custom Butchering.A magician is scheduled to perform after breakfast while the Warren County Fair Queen and the Dairy Princess Promotion will also be on site.
Now in its seventh year, the breakfast supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Warren County. The Imagination Library is a reading initiative for children under 5 years of age. Registered families receive one free book a month mailed to their homes. Registration can be done online or by reaching out to the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center. The Jefferson DeFrees Family Center receives a monthly invoice to cover the cost of the books and shipping. Individuals who support the program on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis along with organizations help pay those bills. The Kiwanis Club of Warren has participated in the storybook breakfast since its beginning in 2018 and is the “Genie of the Lamp” sponsor for the event.
To date, 70,016 books have been mailed to children under 5 years of age in Warren County. In 2025, 9,579 books were mailed. There are 784 registered children, while 1,547 more children have graduated out of the program.
SAdditional sponsors are American Legion Post 135, Struthers Hose, A&B Heating, Mountain Laurel FCU, Warren General Hospital, Kiwanis Club of Warren and residents from Russell as well as smaller sponsors.
The morning is filled with brightly decorated tables to correspond to different storybooks that staff, partners and individuals help decorate. Presale tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center. Tickets purchased Saturday cost $15. A basket raffle will be available. All proceeds will go directly to the monthly Imagination Library invoices.
