The Warren Redevelopment Authority received an update recently from Carl Devlieger regarding the demolition of the structure located at 1509 Pennsylvania Avenue West. During the RDA meeting held in October, Devlieger stated that he was hopeful the structure would be demolished prior to the start of the holiday season. However, recently he explained that demolition efforts have not yet begun due challenging weather conditions.
“I’m actually ready to proceed with it, and if the weather holds, I’m probably starting this week,” said Devlieger.
He indicated that once the project does move forward, the demolition could take several months to complete. A motion was made to have Devlieger return to provide another status report at the RDA’s March meeting.
The Redevelopment Authority officially welcomed new member Rene’ Davis during its first meeting of the new year, marking the beginning of her service on the board.
The board also conducted its annual election of officers at Wednesday’s meeting. Members voted to fill the positions of Chair, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer as part of the organization process for the year ahead.
During the discussion, previous Treasurer Douglas Hearn announced his intention to step down from the role. Board member Philip Dellamedagalia offered to assume the position and was selected to do so. Chair Gary Sawtelle and Vice-Chairman Michael Boyd were both re-elected, allowing them to continue serving in their current leadership roles.
According to information posted on the city’s website, the RDA currently has one vacant seat remaining. Residents of Warren who are interested in serving on the board are encouraged to apply to help fill the open position.
The RDA also approved a motion to accept ownership of property 1311 ½ Still Street from the city. It was noted that the property could be offered up for bids at some point in the future.
The RDA is scheduled to hold its next meeting on February 25 at 1 pm.
