Most serious charges against Warren man not prosecuted

A Warren man who had faced three felony charges after an argument with off-duty police officers from Bradford has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge.

Jeffery D. Andrews, 41, of Warren had been charged with first-degree felony burglary, two counts of second-degree felony aggravated assault – attempts to cause or causes bodily injury with a deadly weapon, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and two counts of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another on June 14. At trial, the most serious charges were not prosecuted while Andrews was found guilty of a charge of simple assault. charge of simple assault.

State troopers based out of Warren were requested to investigate an incident on Callender Street, Pleasant Township, at 2:16 a.m. June 14 after a dispute between neighbors resulted in alleged shots fired at three off-duty Bradford city police officers.

Troopers arrived at the scene at 4:06 a.m. and interviewed the three off-duty officers, who told troopers two of the three had spent the morning golfing and returned to their Airbnb they had rented from Thursday night through Saturday. They were then joined by the third off-duty officer. The three visitors then went to local bars and returned to Callender Street around 1:30 a.m. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, between 5 and 10 minutes later Andrews allegedly went to the front door of the Airbnb, where a verbal argument escalated when Andrews allegedly grabbed one of the off-duty officers by the throat and shoved him through a screen door. The confrontation continued, according to the affidavit, as one of the off-duty officers then hit Andrews with a closed fist. The physical confrontation continued until shots were allegedly fired by Andrews, with the off-duty officers running back into the rental house and Andrews going back to his home.

“The initial responders to this incident … examined the scene at 136 Callender Street and located two 9mm casings,” the affidavit states. “In addition, your affiant observed a broken screen door at 136 Callender Street. Both of these items of physical evidence corroborate the victims’ account of the incident. It was reported that Jeffery Andrews regularly carries a concealed pistol and he also has a concealed carry permit.”
