City Council Highlights local business Healing Beauty

By DELANEY CHASE dchase@timesobserver.com City council welcomed Krista Jee Baxter to Monday’s meeting to share about her business, Healing Beauty. Baxter shared her personal and professional journey, explaining how she grew up in Warren before moving to Los Angeles, where she gained valuable experience working in the beauty and film industries. She later chose to return to her hometown, bringing that experience back with her to open Healing Beauty. The business offers a range of services including hair, makeup, skincare, and wedding services, and primarily operates on an appointment-based schedule. Baxter spoke positively about her downtown location, noting its accessibility and convenient parking, and expressed appreciation for the city’s support of local entrepreneurs. She also encouraged continued efforts to promote local businesses through social media outreach and broader community marketing initiatives. “You can be in a small town and still get everywhere with social media,” Baxter said. “Establishing your name in the Warren Chamber of Business and Industry, it's huge to see your name there and to be able to promote each other.” Council members were interested in knowing what the city can do better to support small businesses and thanked Baxter for choosing to invest in Warren. Baxter opened her shop early in 2025. Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Warren, Baxter’s passion for hair and makeup started at an early age. Frustrated by the lack of beauty products suited to her skin tone and hair type, she experimented with mixing her own solutions, sparking a lifelong fascination with the industry. Her journey into the beauty world began with an internship at Blair Corporation during high school. Determined to break into the industry, she pursued professional training at Empire Beauty School in Pittsburgh, graduating in 2007. There, she learned from an industry makeup artist who had previously worked in New York City. See LOCAL/ A3 LOCAL Jee’s dedication and persistence led her to work in various salons, mastering her craft before making a move to Los Angeles. A chance encounter with a Hollywood director of photography opened doors, leading her to work on film sets and music videos. She quickly built a name for herself, working with major names in entertainment and fashion. In addition to offering her services, Jee has spent the past two years developing her own line of professional-grade, all-natural, plant-based skincare, makeup, and hair products. She is committed to non-toxic ingredients that cater to all skin and hair types, ensuring the best results for her clients.
