The Delta Kappa, Gamma Alpha Mu Chapter met last month at the Mead Township building in Clarendon.
Jennifer Madigan, Executive Director of the Kinzua Area Discovery Center, was the guest speaker. She talked about the dream that she, Melinda Johnson, and Kim Slocum had a few years ago of bringing a discovery center to Warren, and it is now in the Phase I stage of planning.
The vision is to make this center a family experience, encompassing the forest, industry, waterways, and history of Warren County.
For two years, the committee has been working with the museum designers from The Children’s Museum in Erie and the National Comedy Center in Jamestown. The goal is to “bring the outside in” with a rock-climbing wall, an eagle’s nest, a winding river, a discovery center, a teaching kitchen, space for adult classes, and a small theater, just to name a few of the attractions.
Property has been purchased for the center at the former Red Maple Inn next to Ed Shults in Warren.
As part of the Phase I stage, a smaller space is being explored with a train table, a teaching kitchen, an area with magnets, Duplos, and Legos, as well as other STEM related activities. The entire project will be aligned with the Pennsylvania and New York state standards. In other business, Marcia Madigan, President of Alpha Mu Chapter, read a reflection called “28 Secrets to Happiness,” presented a report of the 2025 State Convention, and introduced two new member-elects. First Vice President, Maria Palmieri, read the DKG Mission Statement, the Vision Statement, and the Seven Purposes of the DKG Organization. Several members gave committee reports.
Soups and snacks were enjoyed by all of the members.
