An exhibition of the colorful ceramic work of Tom Hubert and the eclectic collection of art by the Warren Art League will go on display starting Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Crary Art Gallery.

Hubert earned his masters degree in ceramics and ceramic sculpture with a minor in photography from the School for American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology. He taught at Mercyhurst University for 40 years and was the director of the Art Department from 1992 to 2001 and chair of the Art Department from 2003 to 2008, 2013-14 and 2018-19.

Hubert’s career includes more than 20 awards in national and regional exhibitions, juried and invitational exhibitions and 12 one-person shows in the last 14 years.

Hubert uses complex pottery forms using wheel thrown and slab-built construction to shape his ornate whiteware vessels. Layer upon layer of underglaze is fired multiple times to create an endless possibility of designs using a white ceramic base.

The Warren Art League has been bringing together and supporting local artists for more than 70 years. Exhibits have been held at the Warren Mall, Warren Public Library, Crary Art Gallery, the Riverfront, Warren Downtown Sidewalk Days, and along the Warren County Courthouse fence. Artists participating in the upcoming Crary Art Gallery exhibition include Peter Gram, Tina Faulkner, Jacque Caringola, Karen Hetzel, Wilma Fleming, Marian Aranyos, and Diane Delarme.
