Two charged after injured dog found in Sugar Grove

Two area residents face charges after State Police responded to a report of an injured dog recently.

Trista K. Wilson, 21, of Pittsfield and Drake A. Johnson, 23, were charged Nov. 3 by the State Police at Warren after an incident Oct. 17, according to online court docket information. Troopers responded to the area of Murray Hill Road and Stilson Hill Road in Sugar Grove for a report of an injured dog. Upon arrival, troopers report seeing two small mixed breed dogs on the shoulder of Murray Hill Road, one of which was allegedly extremely malnourished. Both dogs were taken to Paws Along The River for treatment. Troopers then found the owners of the dogs and charged them.

According to online court docket information, Wilson is charged with third-degree aggravated cruelty to animals – causing serious bodily injury or death, misdemeanor cruelty to animals, misdemeanor neglect of animals – sustenance/water, third-degree felony aggravated cruelty to animals – torture and cited for application dog license/fees, penalties and vaccination against rabies required – proof of vaccination. Wilson was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Laura Bauer, who set bail at $25,000 unsecured. Wilson will be in court for a preliminary hearing Dec. 10.

Johnson was charged with second-degree misdemeanor cruelty to animals, third-degree misdemeanor neglect of animals – sustenance/water and cited for application dog license/fees, penalties and vaccination against rabies required – proof of vaccination. He will be in court Dec. 10 for a preliminary hearing.
