COMMUNITY NEWS

-The Youngsville Borough is looking for borough residents to join the Zoning Board and the Recreation Commission. Any interested residents should stop by the borough office for more

information.

– Saint Luke’s Catholic Church, 420 North Main St., Youngsville, will hold its rummage and bake sale Thursday through Saturday. Sponsored by the Altar/Rosary Society, the sale takes place on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon with a $1 bag sale.

– The Youngsville Cemetery Association is asking all lot owners to remove all old plants, artificial flowers and decorations by Oct. 15 in order to complete fall clean-up. Winter wreaths can be placed beginning Nov. 1.

LIBRARY NEWS

Don’t forget to stop by and check out the new solar bench out front with phone charging! Instructions on how to access the wifi are visibly displayed.

As a reminder of the library services: Public wifi access 24/7; high speed internet; power library reference and computer applications; computer printing, copier, scanner and faxing available with a fee; Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month from 3 to 4 p.m.; Preschool story time is the second Tuesday of the month from 10:3 to 11 a.m.; WIFI Wednesday is the third Wednesday of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. Stop by for free help with electronic devices including iPhone, Androids and tablets. No appointment is needed.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m., a representative from the Penn State Master Gardeners will be at the library to educate the public on spotted lantern fly. While geared more towards kids/youth, the public is welcome to attend.

On Saturday, Nov., 1, at 11 a.m, the library will be hosting a presentation by author Dennis Viglo of “Strange Kinzua”, where he will be sharing photos and stories of the strange happenings in the Kinzua area.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

-A School Board Candidates Forum for Region 3 with candidates Mary Passinger and Misty Moore will be held Thursday, Oct 16, at 6 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Fire hall. That evening the audience may submit questions on cards for the candidates. Questions should address a candidate’s qualifications and interest in being a director, current and future priorities, school curriculums, school board’s budget affected by federal and state funding, students’ and teachers’ safety, policies, etc. Citizens are invited to the public forum. Region 3 includes boroughs of Bear Lake, Sugar Grove and Youngsville; and townships of Brokenstraw, Farmington, Freehold, Pine Grove Pittsfield, and Sugar Grove. The event is coordinated by the Warren League of Women Voters.

-Every Thursday, is “Bar-Bingo” at the Youngsville American Legion (10 North Main St.). Bingo starts at 6pm, and the kitchen opens at 5 p.m.. Bar-Bingo is a formal term for this weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit at or near the bar area.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Honor Guard of Halgren-Wilcox Youngsville American Legion Post 658 held a dinner for its members to commemorate their participation in over 500 funerals.

The Honor Guard’s primary role is to provide military honors at the funeral or burial of a veteran, including the folding of the flag, rifle volley and the playing of Taps. Post 658’s Honor Guard was founded in 2010 and has just under 20 active members. At the dinner a plaque was presented to honor current and past members of the Honor Guard that have fulfilled these duties.
