More than 70 area students took part in Student Government Day, presented by the Warren County COG.
Local government officials spent the day engaging with students through interactive group sessions, sharing how local government works. The first Student Government Day was held in April 2024 to bring students leaders and local officials together so the students can learn how their community works and who represents them.
This year’s event was held at Youngsville Free Methodist Church. The goal of the initiative is to hold sessions that bring student and elected leaders together two or three times a year.
Warren City Councilwoman Danielle Flasher mentioned the COG’s support of Student Government Day during a recent report to the rest of the City Council while Mayor David Wortman – who recently engaged with Warren youth during an ice cream social – also signaled his support for Student Government Day.
“I just want to put in another plug for the Student Government Day that a lot of municipalities participate in with the student governments at the high schools,” Wortman said during a recent City Council meeting. “I think it’s a fantastic day, you know, to interact with uh you know, at multiple levels within the community. Certainly the student population is critically important to the health and welfare of the city and the county.”
