Youngsville resident George Mead III has planned another evening of free family fun at Silver Star Cinemas in Warren for a sensory friendly movie viewing event.

The Bad Guys 2 will be showing in all three theatres on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m.

“This isn’t going to be your normal movie night,” said Mead. “They’ll be able to move around, stim and make noises without offending other patrons.”

Accommodating the special needs of movie goers of all ages each theatre will present the movie feature in a different way. The movie will be shown with lights off and with regular sound and volume in one of the theatres. A second theatre will be dimly lit and with less sound bass. Lights will be on and there will be no bass in the movie’s sound in the third theatre.

For Mead, whose son is affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, providing more events and activities for those with special needs is important. Planning to host a movie every six months, The Bad Guys 2 will be the third sensory friendly movie event that has been held. Mead said 143 people attended the last movie which featured Moana 2.

“Thirty to 40 percent of them had never been to a movie before” Mead said, adding that Silver Star’s owner has been “super cool”. “The theatre shuts down the whole place (for us). It’s good for them and it’s good for us.”

Supportive funding for the movie event was provided by a donation received from Youngsville Sons of the American Legion and supplemented by money raised during a dodgeball tournament fundraiser, also organized by Mead that was held on Sept. 13. Four teams participated in the round robin style tournament.

“We ended up having a lot of fun and everyone there enjoyed it” said Mead “We made a couple hundred off it so in all it was successful.”

Entry is free and open to the entire community. Free popcorn and drinks will be available. The concession will be open for those wishing to purchase additional snacks, candy or beverages. Guests are permitted to bring their own food and drinks as well. For further information or to make a donation to the movie event call George Mead at 814-730-9001. Donations may also be dropped off at the American Legion in Youngsville.

Starting at $3.50/week.
