City offering ambulance membership plan through Jan. 31

The enrollment period for the city’s ambulance membership program is now open.

Ambulance membership plans date back to the 1960s in Pennsylvania and allow subscribers to largely eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for emergency ambulance services. Members will have unpaid ambulance service balances waived after their insurance company processes their bill for any billable “emergency service” rendered, excluding deductible. Any insurance coverage subscribers may have, including secondary insurance, will be billed and the reimbursement will be accepted as payment in full by the service provider.

Membership is available to both city residents and those who live outside the city. Since 1995, area paramedic services have worked in cooperation with the city in providing emergency medical services. Those who have an emergency which requires paramedic services could possibly receive coverage through a city ambulance membership.

The average response time within the city is approximately three minutes. All city firefighters personnel are trained Emergency Medical Technicians.

Membership also includes a 50% discount on “Treat – No Transport” and “Lift Assist Only” rates.

Membership rates are $38 for individuals, $45 for families, $33 for an individual senior citizen over the age of 62 and $40 for a senior couple who are over the age of 62. A family membership provides coverage for the policy holder, their spouse and dependents under the age of 26 who reside in the household. The 2026 Ambulance Membership Plan provides coverage for the period Jan. 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026. New program enrollments will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2026.

In addition to helping lessen out-of-pocket costs for ambulance users, the membership plans also help provide additional funding for the city’s EMS coverage.

Starting at $3.50/week.
