In a love story that began in the familiar corridors of Warren Area High School and stretched across continents, deployments, and decades, Warren natives Tyler and Ashley Nuhfer are preparing to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this October — a milestone grounded in devotion, adventure, and the lasting values of home.

The couple, graduates of WAHS (Ashley in 2003 and Tyler in 2004), exchanged vows at First United Methodist Church on Market Street shortly after graduation. Just months later, Tyler enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a journey of service that has taken him around the globe while strengthening the bond he shares with his high school sweetheart.

Now stationed near Lemoore, California, the couple has built a life centered around love, learning, and family. Ashley, who holds two master’s degrees from Kent State University, works as a librarian, while Tyler, currently deployed aboard the USS Nimitz, continues to rise in the ranks of the Navy.

“My time in the Navy has been fun, tough, and rewarding,” Tyler shared. “I joined in February 2006 as an E-2 and have risen to the rank of Lieutenant (O-3E). I’m approaching my 20-year mark in February 2026. No plans to retire yet–probably another five to seven years.”

Together, the Nuhfers have raised three children — Jaxson (17), Emmalyn (15), and Josephine (12)–all born at military hospitals around the country but deeply connected to their family’s Warren County roots.

“We visit Warren every chance we get,” said Tyler. “Ashley, the kids and I love to go on hikes in the woods — Jakes Rocks, Rim Rock, Rocky Gap. We hunt and fish with my dad. All three of our kids caught their first fish in Warren with him. Sled riding in the winter is always fun, and the Fourth of July parade is a favorite.”

The family remains closely tied to Warren. Tyler’s father and stepmother, Martin and Jenifer Nuhfer, are both retired and active members of Holy Redeemer Church. The community has always been a source of support and pride for the Nuhfers.

“My late grandmother, Doris Nuhfer, would put family stories in the paper every chance she got–birthdays, graduations, new children, you name it,” Tyler recalled. “The Warren Times Observer even ran our engagement photo in 2004. It got me wondering — how many other WAHS grads share a similar high school sweetheart, 20+ year story?”

As the couple looks ahead to their anniversary on October 22, they remain committed to the life they’ve built together–a life defined by love, service, and a deep appreciation for their hometown.

Theirs is a story that speaks not only to enduring romance but also to the strength of community and the impact of humble beginnings. From Warren’s hallways to Navy ships, from forest hikes to family celebrations, the Nuhfers’ journey is one that continues to inspire.
