Nurse ready to participate in event to benefit sick children

Heather Dyke will be participating in the “24 in 24” race in October.
We all know how caring and hardworking nurses already are, but one area woman is going above and beyond by participating in a “24 in 24” race. This means that Heather Dyke, RN will be running one mile every hour for 24 hours straight.
“I love running and why not turn my love for running into something positive that will help others,” she said. “I am motivated by a recent loss that was very dear to me from pediatric cancer.”
The event will allocate all funds to children with complex medical needs, many who are fighting leukemia. It became near and dear to Dyke’s heart when a friend’s child battled leukemia and later passed away.
Her career as a nurse spans 10 years. Currently employed as a certified school nurse at Warren County School District as well as casual work in the Emergency Room at UPMC Jamestown.
Dyke started running in 2022 with the goal of a healthier lifestyle, meanwhile being able to raise money for those with complex medical needs. Heather previously ran in half marathons in support of those battling other diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, one that is also very dear to her heart as she has a nephew born with CF.
This will be Heather’s first time running this particular race which has 450 challengers completing the run. She has been preparing by running five to six days a week, currently up to 11 miles per run.
“Without individual donors, children would not get the chance to experience wishes while struggling with complex medical struggles,” she said.
Dyke believes every child and family should feel supported throughout the difficult times. She hopes to encourage others to do the same.
The 24 in 24 is presented by “Clean Eatz.” The organization has grown and supports over 400 wish kids. Residents can get involved by donating to the 24 in 24 webpage. Donations directly impact families by allowing children to get “their wish” during their difficult time. The event takes place in Geneva, Ohio, on Oct. 4 and 5.
