Homeless man jailed after fight
A homeless Warren man was jailed after an alleged fight that sent a man to the hospital.
Stephan L. Klein, 20, was charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct engaged in fighting and possession of marijuana – small amount, personal use at 12:36 p.m. Sept. 2 near Allegheny Outfitters. Charges were filed Friday and Klein was arraigned by Magisterial District Court Judge Laura Bauer, who set bail at $50,000 cash. Klein was taken to the Warren County Prison and will return to Bauer’s court Sept. 17 for a preliminary hearing.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, officers were dispatched to the area for a reported disturbance and fight involving four people – Klein and two others and the man who was attacked.
“In response to the call of service, called in by alarmed bystanders, it was relayed we were advised to be looking for suspects leaving the scene described as riding bikes and one on foot wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. These individuals were located at Tops Parking Lot and the man in the blue hooded sweatshirt was identified as Stephan Klein …”
Klein allegedly started the fight by hitting the man in the back of the head with a closed fist. When the man tried to run away one of the two unnamed attackers allegedly tackled the victim. While the man was on the ground, defenseless after being hit by Klein and the other two men, Klein allegedly kicked and stomped on the man’s head and face three times.
“Upon my arrival the victim was disoriented, unable to stand and could not sit up straight,” the officer stated in his affidavit. “He had redness and swelling to his head and facial region. The victim had to be transported by ambulance to the emergency room.”
Police report Klein was found with a rolled marijuana cigarette in his ear, though Klein allegedly does not have a medical marijuana card.
