City eyes ARC grant for river project
City officials are preparing an application for new grant funding for the boat dock launch.
Design and engineering are nearing completion and, according to a report from Chad Yurisic, city engineer during the City Council’s July meeting, should be completed by the end of the year. Yurisic told council members during their September meeting that the search for funding sources is continuing. Bids for construction could be issued in 2026 for the first phase of the city’s riverfront project if funding is secured.
“City staff is continuing to look for additional sources of funding,” Yurisic said. “I have been apprised recently of a source of funding through the Appalachian Regional Commission. City staff is working to prepare a grant application to submit to that.”
In August, the city issued a Request for Proposals for Areas Two, Three, and Four of the Riverfront Redevelopment area. The RFP seeks proposals for multiple renderings for each of the remaining phases/areas of the project.
Area 2 will focus on the area known as Breezepoint Landing. The existing gazebo and restroom may be removed to allow for construction of a more user-friendly restroom and to provide space for additional amenities that will complement the boat ramp and dock as well as increase activity downtown. Area 3 will focus on development of a walking trail which will extend eastward from the existing walkway along the Allegheny Riverfront. Area 4 will focus on development of City-owned property which is adjacent to the eastern end of the Transit Authority of Warren County (TAWC) facility.
