Students of all experience levels will rotate daily between instructors and theatre spaces, being guided through elements of performance and the technical aspects of theatre production. Education Director Jen Check will take the lead in vocal, dance and acting instruction while Artistic Director Eric Morelli shares his knowledge of the technical side of theatre production.
SLT Academy Alumnus Logan Johnson, a senior at Point Park University’s Theatre program, rounds out the trio of instructors on staff for the week’s programming.
Special guest instructor Elise Brown will lend her expertise in the areas of lighting. Brown, a Warren native, was recently on the production crew of the Broadway touring company of Hadestown. Throughout the week there will be opportunities to explore every aspect of what makes musical theater so powerful. Scenes, songs and design inspiration taken from Broadway’s hit shows like Oklahoma, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, Six, and Wicked will be integrated into hands-on workshops in lighting, set design, and costume creation. Acting, vocal, and choreography sessions will take place onstage and in ancillary rehearsal spaces.
Struthers Library Theatre strives to keep educational experiences affordable for interested students and are made possible largely by funding provided by the Alexandria, Virginia based Kay Hardesty Logan Foundation. A philanthropist and lover of the arts, Kay Logan, a lifelong resident of the Chautauqua Institution, left behind a legacy of funding for artistic programming and scholarships. The camp costs $75.
