During practice, band notes ‘welcoming spirit’

DCI Open Class Raiders rehearse at War Memorial Field last week.

Weather canceled this year’s Music on the Mountain event – but that didn’t stop the DCI Open Class Raiders from making some beautiful music in Warren.

The Raiders were among the bands that were going to perform at War Memorial Field during the Music on the Mountain festival. While that show had to be canceled because of the weather, the open class DCI corps Raiders from Princeton, N.J. made Warren their stop over recently on the way to the DCI World Class Finals in Indianapolis by way of Michigan, where they were to compete last weekend.

Utilizing War Memorial Field, the neighborhood was provided with a sight and sound show as the Raiders rehearsed and fine tuned this year’s show entitled “Timeless.” An arrangement of Pink Floyd’s “Time” was the show opener followed by the percussion line feature of an original work called “Ebb and Flow” and slowing the show with Jim Croce’s “Time In A Bottle.” The show explodes with the closing number set to Coldplay’s “Clocks.” The Raiders execute their show with precision that only hours of rehearsal can achieve.

Under the direction of Bob Gupta since 2022, whose drum corps background includes marching with The Crossmen and Garfield Cadets, the New Jersey Raiders appreciate the support they receive when they are in Warren.

YMCA of Warren opens their doors wide providing the gym for sleeping and use of the locker room facilities. A Raiders staff member commented she felt horrible the Music on the Mountain show was not able to go on as planned last week. She went on to say Warren community is “always such a welcoming spirit with the most amazing people.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
