Singer Deana Carter makes stop at Struthers

Country music singer-songwriter Deana Carter took the Struthers Library Theatre stage last weekend performing a short concert to an exuberant audience.

Taking concert-goers on a trip down Carter’s memory lane the crowd laughed as she thanked her husband, Jim McPhail, for accompanying her on guitar and vocals as she sings about her exes.

Nashville born and raised and daughter of Country Music Hall of Famer Fred Carter Jr., Carter released her breakthrough album “Did I Shave My Legs For This?” in 1996. “Strawberry Wine,” the debut single from the album was a huge success and remains the song she is best known for. Carter went on to write, record and release four more albums through 2007.

After forming her own record label in 2013, Little Nugget Records, she released two more albums.

Bringing a bit of ’90’s country music nostalgia to Warren’s historic theater the audience stood to sing and dance along with their favorites. The set was simple and intimate and made you feel like you might in a much smaller venue. Carter’s sweet voice and storytelling prowess captivated everyone in attendance and although lasting only an hour provided a picture window into her life and music.

The next stop on Deana Carter’s tour is The Old Rock House in St. Louis, Mo., this Friday.
