Gary is best known for his work as the founder and operator of a Dairy Queen franchise, which he successfully owned and managed for more than 30 years. His journey into the world of entrepreneurship began in the early 1980s when he recognized the potential of bringing a trusted and beloved brand to his community. Under his stewardship, the Dairy Queen became more than just a restaurant–it served as a community hub, a first job for many local teens, and a consistent contributor to local fundraisers and causes. This business flourished from generating $180,000 annually to an impressive $1.5 million. Through this store he participated in a variety of charity work with The Children’s Miracle Network.
He is also actively involved in civic activities, volunteering with organizations such as the Salvation Army. When there was substantial unemployment in the county, he gave every member a full meal. His creative pursuits include writing poetry, with “Friends I’ve Never Met” being the most notable.
He enjoys collecting coins and loves trading stocks, often following investment strategies inspired by prominent figures. He is passionate about this hobby and he prides himself on his numerical prowess.
Prior to his success in the food service industry, Gary built his professional foundation through various business roles and by pursuing a strong academic path. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, which equipped him with the financial and managerial acumen needed to operate a successful small business in an evolving market.
He is currently serving as the president of GMAZ, Inc. His leadership and business acumen have been instrumental in the company’s success.
Beyond his business accomplishments, Stoops has long been an advocate for entrepreneurship and education. He has mentored young professionals and aspiring business owners, often emphasizing the value of integrity, customer service, and fiscal responsibility. His commitment to nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs has extended to speaking engagements and advisory roles within local business networks and chambers of commerce.
Stoops’ contributions to his community go far beyond his business. He has supported charitable initiatives, volunteered his time with civic organizations, and participated in community improvement projects over the years. His leadership and generosity have earned him admiration from peers, employees, and residents alike.
Marquis Who’s Who selected Mr. Stoops for this recognition based on a combination of factors, including his track record of success, community involvement, and personal character. The organization evaluates individuals not only by their professional achievements but also by the positive difference they make in the lives of others.
Reflecting on his recognition, Stoops expressed gratitude to his family, colleagues, and community, all of whom he credits as being instrumental in his journey. He hopes that his story will inspire others to pursue their passions, take calculated risks, and give back generously to the communities that support them.
As he steps back from daily business operations, Stoops continues to be a force of positivity and progress. He remains active in entrepreneurial circles and continues to support local causes that promote education, youth development, and small business growth.
With a legacy built on vision, dedication, and service, Gary Stoops stands as a model of American entrepreneurship and community spirit.
