Blue Star Mothers plan “Christmas in July” event for vets
The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua are preparing to bring a little holiday cheer to the middle of summer with their special “Christmas in July” event, designed to honor local veterans for their service and sacrifice. The celebration will take place on July 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at Timber Haven, located at Cable Hollow Golf Course in Russell.
Each year, the president of every Blue Star Mothers chapter selects a special project to benefit veterans or active-duty military. For 2025, the president of the Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua has chosen to focus on honoring veterans through this festive mid-summer gathering.
The event will offer veterans and a guest a free lunch, entertainment, and an afternoon filled with gratitude, camaraderie, and celebration. Organizers hope to host up to 100 veterans for the occasion. In addition to lunch, the day will include guest speakers, fun games, and gifts for those attending.
“We wanted to create a special day where our veterans feel appreciated, where they can relax, connect, and be honored for their service,” said Skyla Govier, representative of Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua.
“This is a way for us to give back to the men and women who have given so much.”
The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua, PA Chapter 203, is part of a national nonprofit organization made up of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving, or who have served, in the U.S. Armed Forces. Founded during World War II, Blue Star Mothers provide support for active-duty service members, honor and care for veterans, assist military families, and work together to promote patriotism and community service.
Locally, the Kinzua chapter has been an active force in the Warren County area, regularly organizing care package drives, service projects, and veteran appreciation events. Their mission centers on both supporting troops currently serving and ensuring that local veterans feel seen, valued, and remembered.
“This event is just one example of what the Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua strive to do throughout the year,” the organizer shared. “Our veterans should always know they have a community behind them.”
Veterans interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance, as space is limited to ensure a personalized and comfortable experience for everyone.
