Warren Area High School has nominated senior Leihden Wotorson for the C.L.A.S.S. Act Emerging Leader Award presented by the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5).
The nomination recognizes Leihden’s academic performance, leadership, community involvement and commitment to personal and educational growth.
A respected figure among his peers, Leihden’s leadership journey has spanned two high schools – Sheffield Area High School and, more recently, WAHS – where he has excelled both inside and outside the classroom. Known for his relentless positivity and drive, Leihden embodies the core values of the C.L.A.S.S. (Character, Leadership, Attitude, Scholarship, Service) Act.
Leihden has taken on a demanding academic schedule throughout high school, enrolling in Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment courses while maintaining an outstanding GPA. His strong academic record has prepared him for the next step in his journey: a college education focused on Business and Finance.
Beyond academics, Leihden has served in a variety of student leadership roles. He has been an active member of Key Club, a Class Officer, participant in the Varsity Club, and a member of the spirited “Flannel Panel” student section. In athletics, Leihden has made his mark as a member of both the varsity basketball and varsity golf teams. He earned the title of team captain at both Sheffield and WAHS basketball teams.
Leihden’s influence extends well beyond the classroom and gymnasium. For years, he has committed to playing AAU basketball, which requires extensive travel and time management. Despite the demands of his schedule, Leihden finds time to volunteer at the food pantry in Sheffield.
Leihden’s recent transfer to WAHS during his senior year was not taken lightly. Facing the challenges of a pending district reconfiguration and school consolidation, he made the decision to move schools in order to access advanced coursework that would better prepare him for college.
“Leihden is an outstanding representative of not only Warren Area High School but also the town of Sheffield and Warren County as a whole,” said school officials. “He is empathetic, driven, loyal, and fearless – qualities that define emerging leaders.”
