Richard Allen

Warren General Hospital and LECOM Health have announced the upcoming retirement of Richard Allen, chief executive officer of Warren General Hospital, and the appointment of Dan Grolemund, current administrator at LECOM Health Corry Memorial Hospital, to succeed Allen effective July 1.

Following 40 years of hospital and healthcare leadership roles including more than a decade as chief executive officer, Allen will retire June 30. “My time leading Warren General Hospital has been the pinnacle of my career, and I have been honored to help achieve our vision of a high-quality, independent, community-focused and fiscally stable organization,” he said. “Improving care access and healthcare quality and service to the residents of Warren County and the surrounding region is very important work. I have enjoyed every day, and I am proud of our community hospital and dedicated employees.”

Allen’s list of accomplishments as CEO includes the following:

— Over a 10-year period achieved an unprecedented economic and strategic turnaround resulting in consistent positive operating margins.

— Awarded two Truven “Top 100” designations as one of the best community hospitals in the nation.

— Won the HAP “Optimal Operations” award for excellence in hospital management.

— Established a unique partnership with AHN and LECOM Health while remaining an independent community-focused hospital.

— Achieved 20%-plus growth in net revenue topping $100 million/year through enhanced community engagement, new services and a focus on quality and service.

— Invested over $40 million in hospital facility improvements and new equipment including DaVinci Robotic Surgical Platform, 3D mammography, MediTech Expanse E.H.R., renovations to the ER and maternity unit, and much more.

— Established a culture of success including quality, service and economics.

Grolemund will not be new to Warren General Hospital. Starting his healthcare career immediately out of college as a licensed occupational therapist there, Grolemund spent 23 years working in a variety of positions before leaving to fulfill the role of President/CEO of Corry Memorial Hospital in 2023.

“Corry Memorial Hospital welcomed me with open arms, and we have together driven tremendous growth in our patient volumes, revenue and satisfaction, in addition to improvements in our hospital environment and culture,” Grolemund said. “With my love of Corry Memorial Hospital and our outstanding team, the Warren General Hospital CEO position is the only other job I would have considered.”

In his previous tenure at Warren General Hospital, Grolemund rapidly moved up to supervisor, then director and executive director/Warren Medical Group practice administrator. He is a certified hand therapist, holds master’s degrees in business administration and health administration, and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. “Dan will bring outstanding leadership and management skills as well as an unwavering passion for success to the hospital,” Allen said. “I am confident he will continue working toward our vision of independence and economic and strategic success.”
