Lacy Park in Warren is set to receive a long-awaited upgrade this spring as city officials and community donors work together to enhance the recreational space.
According to Mike Holtz, city manager, the park will soon feature a completed walking trail encircling its perimeter, making it a more accessible and inviting space for residents.
“Not too much has been done in the past few years on Lacy Park,” Holtz stated. “There’s a project ready to be done in the spring of this year. Through funding sources, we are going to put a walking trail around the perimeter of the park. Right now, there is a sidewalk on two sides of the park. We are going to enclose the other two sides of the walking trail so that people can walk the perimeter of the park. We will be doing that this spring.”
Lacy Park has undergone a series of transformations over the past few years, with major renovations taking place three to four years ago. The improvements included the installation of a pavilion, new playground equipment, and a significant financial investment–totaling several hundred thousand dollars–into the project. Since then, enhancements have been added each year, making the park a staple of the community.
“The park has become a really nice space for families,” Holtz explained. “It has a pavilion for gatherings, a great playground for kids, and even some off-street parking. Over time, we’ve added new features, including improvements to the basketball court and the installation of a sidelight to enhance safety.”
The latest upgrade–the completion of the walking trail–has been made possible through contributions from local organizations and donors. The Warren Rotary Club, along with a few other unnamed benefactors, have played a key role in funding this project. Their support continues to be instrumental in ensuring Lacy Park remains a well-maintained and welcoming space for all.
“The Rotary Club and a couple of other donors have been instrumental in donations to this park,” Holtz said. “Their contributions have helped us continue to improve this space year after year.”
As the city gears up for the new walking trail installation, residents can look forward to even more enhancements to Lacy Park in the future. Holtz emphasized that while the park has already undergone major improvements, the city remains committed to adding new features whenever possible.
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance our public spaces,” he said. “Lacy Park has become a valued part of the community, and we want to continue making it a great place for people of all ages to enjoy.”
