YOUNGSVILLE – Youngsville Elementary School officials are trying to make math more fun both in school and at home.

The school recently hosted its annual Title 1 Math Night for students and their families. The event was designed to promote family involvement in education while helping students build essential math skills through hands-on, interactive activities.

The Title 1 Math Night was part of the school’s ongoing efforts to foster strong partnerships between families and educators. Title 1, a federally funded program aimed at supporting students from low-income families, provides additional resources to families in an attempt to boost math learning.

Parents and caregivers get an opportunity to learn more about the way the school is teaching math, further strengthening the connection between home and school.

“The goal of the event was to make math more approachable and fun for students, while also empowering families to support their children’s learning outside of the classroom,” Youngsville Elementary School officials said in a news release. “Teachers and staff provided guidance and suggestions for making math both enjoyable and practical at home.

The evening featured a variety of interactive math stations, students, along with their families, moved through the stations, tackling challenges and engaging in hands-on activities designed to make learning math exciting. Activities included a paper airplane measurement and graphing activity, creating 3-D shapes with marshmallows, estimation, and games. Activities allowed students to apply their math skills in practical ways while encouraging collaboration and critical thinking.

Each student that attended received a goodie bag with math games to play the games at home.
