Evelyn Phillips of Warren has been awarded the Girl Scouts Bronze Award for her efforts in the community.

The Bronze Award is the highest recognition for achievement in Girl Scouting for girls in fourth and fifth grades.

The Bronze Award recognizes Girl Scouts who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects that address important community needs.

The Troop’s Bronze Award project began Aug. 29 and ended Nov. 26. Evelyn felt a desire to add something more to the food pantry distributions at her church, so she developed a Take Action plan to provide a special experience for families/members of the community in addition to what they already receive.

Evelyn came up with the idea to provide a cookie baking experience for other members of the community that may not be able to enjoy this activity under their current circumstances. She designed the kits to provide the essentials for groups of family and friends to bake a batch of Christmas cookies together. She put a lot of time and effort into the planning, spreading the word, collecting items and packaging the kits. The Christmas Experience Kits will be distributed with the food pantry packages at Grace United Methodist Church during the month of December. Evelyn was supported in her Bronze Award effort by Grace United Methodist Church, her family, friends and the giving community members of Warren.

Evelyn used her strengths, talents, and skills to put her plan into action to earn the Bronze Award while taking a leadership role.

Starting at $2.99/week.
