Historical Society to host open house

Photo submitted to the Times Observer The grand front parlor of the Struthers-Wetmore-Schimmelpfeng house will host the Youngsville High School string orchestra at the Warren County Historical Society’s annual Victorian Christmas Open House on Friday, December 6, from 6:00-8:30.

The Struthers-Wetmore-Schimmelfeng House, a time capsule of old-town family traditions, transforms into a magical Christmas wonderland by the Warren Garden Club for the holiday season.

On Friday, everyone can experience a taste of holidays gone by when the Warren County Historical Society’s Victorian Christmas Open House takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

There will be light refreshments and music from the Youngsville High School string orchestra, who will be performing a variety of holiday tunes in the society’s front parlor.

Wander through the mansion’s elegantly decorated rooms, each showcasing unique design elements from the era, all adorned with cheerful seasonal decorations. Also on display are the authentic Victorian gowns on loan from Ralph Kean, which gracefully highlight the dainty details and artistry of the time.

More music will fill the air upstairs in the Victorian parlor as John Bowler strums period Christmas songs on his 19th-century parlor guitar. Children are also invited to string popcorn in the old Bourquin Store.
