Allegheny Outdoor Club members have recognized Bill Massa for his years of service to the club.

Club members held the organization’s annual meeting and dinner recently at First Lutheran Church. Before the meeting, 27 members took part in a historical walking tour of downtown Warren led by Earl Ross.

The Allegheny Outdoor Club, which first gathered to hike in 1939, has since expanded its activities to include various options such as biking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing. Club membership stands at 71 people currently. Club members say Massa is one reason for the club’s growth over the years.

Cody Miller, Chapman State Park Manager, spoke about the newly organized Friends of Chapman group. The Friends will meet on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in pavilion 5 (the sledding hill warming hut) at Chapman. For more information, contact Chapman State Park at 814-723-0250.

The guest speaker before dinner was Melissa Goodwill, outreach and education manager at Tamarack Wildlife Center in Saegertown.

Her program explained the important work the small staff and volunteers perform at the facility, which includes rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife. She also shared photographs and stories of many rescued animals and the animal ambassadors who visit groups in the community.

So far this year, 41 rescues from the Warren area have been accepted at Tamarack.

The Allegheny Outdoor Club is a year-round community of outdoor enthusiasts. The club meets regularly for various activities and welcomes everyone to join, ensuring the spirit of adventure and camaraderie continues throughout the year.
