Local musician gaining recognition in the international singer-songwriter scene
He taught himself to play the harmonica using a book and cassette tape. Over the years, he also taught himself how to play guitar.
“I probably should have taken some lessons at some point, but I never did,” said Maloof.
While humble about his skills, he continues gaining recognition in the music industry. In 2023, he was nominated for Vocalist of the Year, Rising Star of the Year, Album of the Year, Single of the Year, and Emerging Artist.
This year, Maloof won the Rising Star of the Year award and was nominated for several others, including SongWriter of the Year, US Male Vocalist of the Year, and Emerging Artist.
Maloof’s third album, “How’m I Doin’,” leans towards the alternative country. His music blends rock and roll, blues, country, and soul, drawing inspiration from legends like Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, and John Cougar Mellencamp.
Maloof’s journey has involved creating music, publishing music, mastering social media promotion, and networking with fellow musicians. He has found that he enjoys the production and copywriting areas of music.
Maloof credits his most recent successes to joining the International Singers-Songwriters Association and making connections within that community.
Tamanie Dove, a singer-songwriter from Nashville, founded ISSA to support independent artists and promote aspiring and professional singers and songwriters across different music genres worldwide.
“I joined ISSA around five or so years ago, and the amazing people I have met and what I have learned from the community have been invaluable,” said Maloof.
Through the ISSA, Maloof was introduced to his public relations manager, Murial Bessmann, in Paris, France. “Working with Murial, I am now submitting my music to significant music supervisors for placement in film or TV,” said Maloof.
In addition to ISSA and Bessmann, Maloof credits his producer Anthony Brown, and Rich Alcorn who played lead guitar on his album. Maloof’s journey has involved creating music, publishing music, mastering social media promotion, and networking with fellow musicians. He has found that he enjoys the production and copywriting areas of music.
Maloof’s music can be streamed on all platforms, making it easily accessible to all music lovers. It is also on all TouchTunes Internet jukebox systems, bringing his soulful tunes to a broader audience.
“Calling local radio stations to request music has been on the decline, but it is important for artists to get their music out there,” said Maloof.
Matt Maloof has two upcoming shows in Warren County. He will play Saturday at PennHighlands Campground, 3574 Rhine Run Road, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. as part of an end-of-summer bash put on by the Marksman MC.
