Hi-Ed to launch Youth Leadership Program
The Warren Forest Higher Education Council is launching a Youth Leadership Program this fall.
The program is open to students in grades six through eight.
Angela Bigelow, Hi-Ed’s assistant director, called the effort “an initiative designed to equip middle school students with key leadership skills while introducing them to diverse career fields.”
“(T)his program will help participants build confidence, develop communication and teamwork abilities, and gain valuable real-world experience,” she added.
The program will run throughout the school year and include sessions on topics such as public speaking, ethics, problem-solving and civic responsibility.
They’ll also hear about career paths from a host of businesses and organizations including Whirley Drink Works, Warren General Hospital, the WCCBI, among others.
“These partnerships provide students with direct exposure to professionals in industries such as healthcare, business, manufacturing, and community service,” Bigelow said.
The program will also include a trip to Harrisburg to meet leaders and tour the state Capitol.
“Sessions are held on school holidays to ensure that students can participate without interfering with their academic schedules,’ Bigelow said. “With a small group size of 15 students, the program allows for personalized attention and meaningful engagement.”
Cost to participate is $25 and scholarships are available to ensure the “program is accessible to all interested students,” she added.
