Closure hearing for Sheffield, Youngsville high schools set for Oct. 2
There will be a closure hearing regarding grades 9-12 for Sheffield and Youngsville.
The Warren County School Board took that action in a split 5-3 decision this evening. The hearing will be Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at Warren Area High School.
According to the text of the motion, the specific reasons for the hearing include “declining enrollment and budgetary constraints and to afford the students with improved course offerings and educational opportunities.”
Under the proposal, students at Sheffield would be “re-assigned” to Warren while Youngsville students would be assigned to the Eisenhower complex.
Solicitor Christopher Byham said the hearing’s “primary purpose” will be to receive public comment on the “potential closure of the schools” and will include a presentation by administration “in terms of why the closures are being recommended.”
