Youngsville man charged in parking lot incident
A Youngsville man faces charges that center around allegations that he struck a pedestrian with his vehicle in the Tops parking lot in June.
Charges were filed against Jeffrey R. Weaver, 72, 3100 Murray Hill Rd., by Youngsville Police on Tuesday.
According to police, the victim was left with several fractures and hemorrhaging that required nearly three weeks in critical care at UPMC Hamot.
The incident occurred on June 8 shortly after 8:30 p.m., according to the criminal complaint filed in the case.
Police say an investigation determined Weaver was operating an F-250 truck while in an argument with another individual.
“After the argument,” the affidavit alleges, “Weaver accelerated quickly out of his parking space onto S. Center St. and struck a 74-year-old male” who was crossing S. Center St.
According to the affidavit, Weaver allegedly told police that “he was not paying attention because he was looking back at the individual he was arguing with.”
Police say that “skid marks were left on the roadway from Weaver’s vehicle where he left the parking spot and as a result of breaking quickly after striking” the victim.
The affidavit states that, while on scene, the victim was “struggling to breath(s) and had bleeding from his head area” and was subsequently flown to Erie for treatment at UPMC Hamot “where he remained under critical care until June 28.”
The complaint details the charges filed against Weaver — aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless driving, careless driving and moving a vehicle unsafely.
Online court records show that he was arraigned by District Judge Raymond Zydonik on Tuesday morning and released on an unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next month.
