Victims Impact Panel holds basket giveaway

The Victim Impact Panel held a basket raffle during fair week. Winners pictured are Toni Loomis, Alicia K, Sarah Lyon, The McGuires, and Alicia Madigan.

A basket giveaway held during the Warren County Fair will help the organization pay for a scholarship for a graduate from each of the county’s high schools.

The Victim Impact Panel is a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to keeping roads safe by educating the public about the consequences of DUIs and distracted driving. With DUIs becoming more numerous due to the drug epidemic and distracted driving on the rise as well, the message to make safe choices when getting behind the wheel is more important than ever.

Speakers are scheduled three to four times yearly to speak to offenders with a DUI charge. Speakers can discuss how a DUI has impacted them personally, either as someone who has been previously charged, a family member who was impacted, or any person who has been affected by intoxicated or distracted driving or addiction.

The organization holds fundraisers, including a 5K in April and a basket raffle at the fair, to raise money for its scholarship program

The Victim Impact Panel awards scholarships to one student at each of the county high schools based on a submitted essay. In order to continue the program, volunteers are needed to serve the panel, with a time commitment of a few hours every three months.

To volunteer, call contact Monica Prewitt at 814-728-3487.

Starting at $2.99/week.
