Showers put damper on Tuesday’s start for rides

Times Observer Photo by Heather Cathcart-Norris The crowds came out for Tuesday evening at the fair despite heavy rains earlier in the day.

Rain may have delayed the opening of the Warren County Fair midway, but the excitement was palpable Tuesday evening when it opened.

As heavy rains came, an announcement throughout the fairgrounds was made that the rides at the midway would not be opening at 1 p.m., but would be delayed until 5.

The disappointment in the faces of children and teens was visible.

The intermittent rain later in the afternoon and evening wasn’t enough to keep the thrill seekers away. There were delighted giggles and screams from rides ranging from the merry-go-round to the more thrilling ride, such as the new Beast.

Due to the rain storms, the KOI Drag Racing Eliminations at the MotorSports Speedway were canceled.

Sammy Kershaw performed to a crowd of spectators who streamed into the fairgrounds to see this big-name artist live in concert.

As they say, “Fair week in Warren will take care of a drought.”

The weather is looking better for the rest of the week for more fair fun.
