Household, e-waste recycling event is Saturday

A household hazardous and electronic waste recycling event is set for this Saturday at 9 a.m. at Betts Park.

What does that include?

According to the company that is recycling the materials, Noble Environmental Speciality Recycling, the event will accept “mostly any… chemical you find under your sink or in your garage” as well as “any device with a cord, screen or circuit board.”

City of Warren Administrative Assistant Kassie Damcott said the event will be held at the west end of the park near the Betts and bocce pavilions.

“Noble Environmental does ask for pre-registration, but it is not required,” she said.

Accepted chemicals include paint, automotive, cleaning, lawn and garden, pesticide, battery, light bulb/tube, flammables and pool chemicals while accepted electronics and freon include TVs, computers, laptops, printers, phones, window AC units, dehumidifiers, minifridges, microwaves and gaming devices.

Here’s a summary of the costs to residents to recycle at this event: 35 cents a pound for freon devices; 65 cents for tvs and monitors; 45 cents a pound for all other e-waste; 85 cents a pound for paints and stains, 90 cents for bulbs and batteries; $1.15 a pound for all other chemicals and $7 each for propane containers of all sizes.

“It’s not just for city residents,” Damcott said. “It’s for everyone.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
