Burkhouse highlights how to get marriage license as part of REAL ID process

The most recent deadline for enforcement of REAL ID is less than a year away.

Starting on May 7, 2025, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license (or a passport or military ID) to board a domestic flight or enter a federal building that requires identification.

A series of documents have to be provided in order to secure the REAL ID license birth certificate, Social Security card, two proofs of address and proof of all name changes.

That means that, per the state, marriage certificates, court orders or adoption decrees are required to get the ID.

“If you applied for a Marriage License in Warren County PA, our office can provide you with a certified copy of your Marriage License,” Warren County Register and Recorder Lisa Berkhouse siad.

“The certificate that you received from your officiant when you were married is a keepsake certificate; it is not a certified copy of your official Marriage License.”

Berkhouse outlined how those in need of the certified copy can get one.

The first is to stop in the office at the Warren County Courthouse during business hours.

A written request can also be sent to the courthouse, 204 Fourth Ave., with a check/money order for $5, the cost of the copy, to the Recorder of Deeds. Those requesting by mail are asked to include a self-addressed postage paid envelope.

Burkhouse said that the copy can also be ordered online, but with a slightly higher fee and a service fee.

“When requesting your marriage license, please include full legal names of both parties and the date you were married, most importantly the year,” Burkhouse said. “We can only provide marriage licenses for those who applied in Warren County. You must reach out to the County where you applied.”
